Representatives in University Bodies

As Graduate students, we form our own political interest group ("Statusgruppe") within the University. As such we are represented in various University bodies. The two main routes of decision-making in the Graduate Council are:

  • General Assembly: This is a regular meeting where all PhD students are invited to participate, voice their opinions and propose issues to be discussed. The General Assembly decides the standing of the Graduate Council on political topics and elects the Graduate Council Board.
  • General elections: Representatives in the senate, faculty councils and the student parliament are elected yearly through general elections.

Federal Association of German Doctoral Representatives

The University of Hohenheim is a part of the Federal Association of German Doctoral Representatives (Bundesverband Promovierende e.V.). It was founded in Berlin in September 2023 by doctoral student representatives from all over Germany. The current board consists of ten people from ten universities. The association unites 37 local representative bodies at universities and thus represents over 75% of doctoral candidates (103,000 people) with democratic representation of interests. It campaigns for better working conditions and fairer funding and access conditions for international and German doctoral candidates.
